As a child, I have always dreamt of not generating garbage, of finding for every object always a new way to use, or a new owner. It seemed too sad to throw things into garbage, and I grew up in an era where my parents told me to not flush the toilet if we just make pee, as it seemed crazy to use so much water just to flush down a little pee.
With the help of internet ( Facebook groups, and buy nothing groups) and recycling practices, my dream has somewhat become true… But still a long way to go.
I also love seeing that it is more and more common to not put everything into the trash, but next to it, somehow neatly packed if it is still usable.
I secretly envy the slum kids in India who dig around in trash all day round in Bombay, to look for treasure.
I admit that I take more and more things from trash, or next to trashes. It gives me a rush, like as if I had found a real treasure the universe sent me. Many times exactly thing that I was asking for, It is a game with God and I feel connected to other people, as they used these objects as well. And on top of everything, it is free!
Isn’t it some basic human need to make use of everything, to not generate trash? I mean, until not so long ago, we had not too much garbage and most things were made of organic materials. To me, up until today, it feels weird to generate so much trash.
I always phantasise about a super intelligent internet, or telepathy, where I can send a signal and the person who needs my not needed object the most gets a message.
Or maybe a local huge garden where we can bring all this stuff, and everyone can take what they need.
I might be a geek I a way, but I would feel huge satisfaction.
I do not shop only for second hand, because it is cheap, but because it is more fun. I love flea markets. I love to re-use things. I love to not buy too many things, and too many new things.
What about you?
